Family-Friendly Fall Activities in Phoenix

Fall in Arizona is one of the best times of year to get outside. With the cooler weather and plenty of community events throughout the valley, families can make lasting memories together before the busy holiday season sets in. Whether you love pumpkin patches, scenic drives, or local markets, there’s something for everyone to enjoy around Phoenix this fall.

1. Visit a Pumpkin Patch or Fall Festival

Activities like pumpkin patches and fall festivals are perfect for families. From corn mazes to hayrides, you’ll find a variety of activities that both children and adults can enjoy. Popular spots for picking pumpkins include Macdonald’s Ranch in Scottsdale and Tolmachoff Farms in Glendale. Don’t forget to check out the fall festivals in the Valley as well, including the Arizona State Fair in Phoenix and Vertuccio Farms Fall Festival in Mesa.

2. Take a Scenic Drive

Arizona’s desert landscapes truly shine in the fall. Head north to Sedona or Flagstaff to see the changing colors of the leaves, or drive along the Mogollon Rim for breathtaking vistas. A fall road trip can be the perfect backdrop for family photos and creating special memories and traditions.

3. Hike to See the Fall Colors Up Close

Fall is the perfect time to lace up your hiking boots and take in Arizona’s vibrant scenery. Trails like Aspen Corner in Flagstaff and Oak Creek Trail in Sedona are both family-friendly options where you can experience the magic of golden Aspen trees against red rock backdrops. Hikes combine exercise, fresh air, and the beauty of nature—perfect for bonding as a family or a couple.

4. Enjoy Outdoor Adventures

Families can enjoy bike rides along scenic desert trails, go horseback riding in the cooler weather, or spend the day fishing at one of Arizona’s many peaceful lakes. For something more adventurous, try kayaking on Watson Lake in Prescott or taking a hot air balloon ride over the Sonoran Desert to see the fall colors from above. These activities not only get everyone moving but also give your family unique ways to experience Arizona’s stunning landscapes.

5. Explore Local Farmers Markets

Fall is harvest season, and Arizona’s farmers markets are bursting with fresh produce and homemade goods. Strolling through a market with your family is a fun way to support local businesses, try new foods, and teach children the importance of community.
