Thanksgiving Morning Fun: Sign Up for a Local Turkey Trot!

Before we stuff ourselves—quite literally!—during Thanksgiving dinner, the staff at Phelps LaClair loves to get together with their families and friends to participate in a morning turkey trot. Running is a great way to spend some time with loved ones while getting in some metabolism-boosting exercise to help burn off all of those delicious extra calories.

There will be several Thanksgiving races in the Phoenix area this year. Perhaps we’ll see you at one of them!

Phoenix Turkey Trot 2021

This year’s Phoenix Turkey Trot has something for everyone in the family! Older kids and adults can opt to run or walk the 5K (3.1 miles) and 10K (6.2 miles) races, plus there’s a 1-mile Gobbler Dash for kids 12 and under, and a 50-yard dash for kids 6 and under. All kids receive a T-shirt and can have fun after their races in the Kids Zone with face painting and arts and crafts.

Participants in the 5K or 10K races get an official race T-shirt and a finisher’s medal. There’s also a costume contest with prizes for “best dressed turkey,” “best dressed family,” and more! The Phoenix Turkey Trot 2021 benefits 2Gether We Live—a nonprofit that provides life experiences for underserved populations.

Mesa Turkey Trot 2021

The annual Mesa Turkey Trot is one of Arizona’s oldest running Thanksgiving events. This year’s turkey trot will feature both 5K and 10K races, as well as 1-mile and 2-mile fun routes for younger runners. Held at Red Mountain Park, the Mesa Turkey Trot 2021 benefits the Sertoma Club of Mesa, which provides community outreach to disabled and underprivileged community members. All 5K and 10K finishers receive a medal as they cross the finish line.

Chandler Turkey Trot 2021

With a race name like Strut Your Stuffing, you know that the Chandler Turkey Trot 2021 will be fun! Held at Tumbleweed Park in Chandler, this 5K walk and run provides a great way to start Thanksgiving Day with loved ones. The whole family can participate in the event, and everyone who crosses the finish line gets a finisher medal and race T-shirt.

There will also be music and refreshments to enjoy after the race. The Strut Your Stuffing 5K benefits Compassion Center and asks race participants to bring donations of food, clothing, and hygiene products to stuff their donation truck.

Gilbert Turkey Trot 2021

Since 2011, the Gilbert Turkey Trot has been a community tradition on Thanksgiving morning. Throughout the years, the race has raised almost $450,000 for local nonprofits, because the race staff donates 100% of the proceeds to charities. This year’s benefactors are AZBrainFood and Families Fighting Blindness. Held at SanTan Village, this year’s Gilbert Turkey Trot 2021 features a 1-mile fun run for the kiddos and a 5K run or walk for the entire family.
