11 Apr Three Fun Outdoor Events in Arizona This May
At Phelps LaClair, we love to spend time with our families out in nature. Getting outdoors and indulging in the scenery always puts us in a better mood. From hiking the gorgeous rocky landscapes or canoeing the rivers and lakes, to playing the golf courses or attending festivals and events, we never run out of fun things to do! Here are three events we’re looking forward to in May.
1: Watch a Movie Under the Stars at Empire Ranch
May 10th from 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm in Sonoita
Plan a date night to snuggle up on a blanket and watch a free movie under the stars this May 10th. The Empire Ranch Foundation will be screening “A Star is Born,” a classic movie featuring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
While you’re there, keep an eye on the movie for familiar landscapes, because part of the film was shot at the Empire Ranch! Pack a picnic dinner to enjoy and bring some lawn chairs or cushions for extra comfort. Snacks and water will be sold at the event.
Shop the Outdoor Market at Artisan Alley
May 16th from 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm in Glendale
Artisan Alley in Glendale is a fun, vibrant outdoor market held monthly at the Westgate Entertainment District. It’s perfect for families, art lovers, and those who are searching for handmade goods. You can find jewelry, clothing, unique gifts, and sustainably-made items.
You could get a tarot reading, dance with friends to live music, support local vendors, and grab some appetizers and a drink. There are food options galore, with nearby restaurants like Salt Tacos y Tequila, Hot N Juicy Crawfish, and Manna Korean BBQ to keep you satisfied. Bonus – dogs are welcome, too! It’s the perfect way to spend a Friday evening.
Take a Guided Walking Tour at Dead Horse Ranch
Every Sunday in May at 8:00 am
Nestled along the Verde River, Dead Horse Ranch State Park offers an incredible outdoor experience with its Sunday Guided Hikes. Ask your family to join you for a morning walk and a fun opportunity to learn about the park’s rich history. Each week, the hikes vary in route, allowing visitors to discover different areas of the park, from sparkling clear lakes to tree-lined streams and beautiful forests.
The trails are suitable for various fitness levels, making them accessible to families, nature enthusiasts, and casual walkers alike. The hikes start at 8:00am and typically last between one to two hours. They’re free with the park’s entrance fee ($10 for a one-person vehicle, $20 for 2+persons vehicle, $5 for a bike).
A Sunday hike is a fantastic way to connect with nature, do a little bird watching, and soak up the beauty of the Verde Valley. If you’d like to make a weekend out of it, you can rent a cabin. That way you’ll be able to enjoy canoeing, biking, or trail riding during your stay. And keep an eye out for the birds! You can spot bald eagles, herons, egrets, and many others. There’s something for everyone in the family to enjoy during an adventure at the ranch!
