24 Oct Special Events and Special Needs Planning
October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month, and the Team here at Phelps LaClair have been honored to help celebrate the abilities and contributions of people with special needs. James and his son Ashton participated in the Sharing Walk that took place in Tempe a few weeks ago and had a great time. Ashton’s game booth was a big hit!
The Sharing Walk’s organizer and Sharing Down Syndrome founder, Gina Johnson, dropped by the office with her son David last week to say hi and give James and Jeff a hard time about our (ahem) folically challenged heads. There’s never a dull moment with that guy around!
Just last weekend (October 14-15) was the annual Arizona Special Olympics Fall Games, and some of our team were there with their family to help in the Bocce and Aquatics events. We were impressed and touched by the level of true sportsmanship that each of these athletes showed as they simultaneously competed with and cheered on their peers. We love opportunities to hang out with people who are so enthusiastic about life, friends, and fun!
One of our passions is working with special needs families to make sure they are properly covered when it comes to the future care of their loved one. We know that there are even more questions to consider in these situations, and we have a wealth of experience in this area. A Special Needs Trust is a terrific blueprint available to families that takes all of these concerns into account and ensures that your loved one is able to live life to its fullest, even after you are gone.
Jeff has an extensive background working with special needs children through various organizations such as Special Olympics, Arc of Arizona, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
If you have a child with special needs, have you thought about his or her future? Is he or she sufficiently provided for in the event of your death? If not, consider scheduling an appointment with us for a free consultation to see what we can do for you.
