We always enjoy getting out in nature as a way to keep healthy. And now that fall is finally here, we’re excited to embrace the cooler weather and have more outdoor adventures! The comfortable temps also bring more wildlife activity, so grab your binoculars if you’re headed out for a hike. Here are some of our favorite fall activities in the Phoenix area.
Weekend Camping Trips
While camping in fall you’ll be sure to have a peaceful, serene experience. November is a great month to go camping in Arizona because of the warm days and comfortable temperatures at night.
- Want to go wilderness camping? Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument in southern Arizona is a stunning desert park and a perfect spot to stargaze while snuggled up in your sleeping bag. The park offers two campgrounds—Twin Peaks and Alamo Canyon—both providing a great base for exploring the desert beauty while hiking. There are also backcountry permits available for a more remote experience.
- Ready to commune with nature and perhaps take a stroll with wild horses? From November to April, Coon Bluff is a popular place to enjoy warm sunny hikes during the day and cozy up to a campfire at night. There are many campsites along the river, so book your pass and settle in with your family for the weekend.

- Arizona Outdoor Fun Adventures and Tours offers a variety of exciting outdoor activities perfect for family fun. Plan your own event with options from ATV off-road adventures to scenic rafting trips on the Salt River. - Hop aboard the Grand Canyon Railway’s Polar Express for an unforgettable holiday adventure! Starting in Williams, Arizona, this magical train ride takes you on a journey to the enchanting “North Pole,” where Santa Claus himself is waiting with a special gift for every child. Sip hot chocolate, enjoy delicious cookies, and watch the kids’ faces light up as they experience the magic of Christmas. The ride lasts about 90 minutes, with departures at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. each night. Be sure to book early, as space fills up quickly for this must-see holiday tradition.
- Another wonderful place to visit with kids this fall is the Great Arizona Puppet Theater. It’s a fabulously fun non-profit puppet theater that is open to the public year-round. This November, you can sing along with the Little Red Hen or indulge in some holiday magic with The Elves & The Shoemaker.
